Bed Bug Heat Treatment Aftercare
What to expect after your industrial bed bug heat treatment, how to monitor for stragglers and how our guarantee works.

What to Expect After Your Heat Treatment
Following your industrial bed bug heat treatment, it is important to understand that seeing the occasional bed bug immediately after treatment does not necessarily mean the treatment has failed.
Our heat treatments are designed to achieve lethal temperatures throughout the treated areas, eliminating bed bugs at all life stages, including eggs. However, on rare occasions, a small number of bed bugs may emerge from deep harbourages or inaccessible voids shortly after treatment.
Common Bed Bug Hiding Spots
Bed bugs are masters of concealment. They squeeze into paper-thin gaps, usually within a few feet of where you sleep. Understanding their favourite harbourages helps you monitor effectively after treatment and recognise why industrial heat is so powerful — it penetrates every seam, void and crack that sprays simply cannot reach.
Mattress seams & tags
The piping along mattress edges and the fabric label tag are the most common harbourages. Bed bugs cluster in these tight folds, leaving dark faecal spotting as evidence.
Box springs & bed frames
The internal wooden slats, screw holes and corner joints of bed frames provide perfect dark crevices. Box springs are especially vulnerable because of the hollow interior spaces.
Headboards & footboards
Upholstered and wooden headboards — particularly tufted or panelled designs — offer multiple hiding places at the top corners, lower seams and where the headboard meets the mattress.
Bedside cabinets & lamps
Items within arm's reach of the bed are prime territory. Check drawer joints, the underside of cabinets and behind bedside lamps where bugs can retreat after feeding.
Sofas & upholstered furniture
Any seating near a sleeping area can harbour bugs in cushion seams, under seat covers and within the frame structure — especially if anyone naps there.
Less obvious spots
Skirting boards, electrical outlet covers, picture frames, curtain folds, wallpaper edges and even cracks in plaster can all shelter bed bugs when infestations spread.
Bites and Skin Reactions
Many people continue to experience itching or notice marks appearing for up to 2–3 weeks after treatment. This is completely normal and does not automatically indicate ongoing activity.
Bed bug bites can have a delayed reaction, meaning marks may appear several days after being bitten. Existing bites can also continue to itch and become more visible during the healing process.
Stragglers
It is not uncommon to see a couple of isolated bed bugs during the first couple of weeks following treatment. These are often referred to as "stragglers" and will usually die shortly afterwards as a result of the heat treatment.
If any bed bugs are seen, we recommend monitoring the situation and, where possible, obtaining clear video evidence.
Avoid Moving Items
To minimise any risk of reintroduction:
- Avoid moving furniture between rooms.
- Avoid taking bedding, clothing or personal belongings from untreated locations into treated rooms.
- Continue normal household cleaning.
- Do not introduce second-hand furniture into the property without careful inspection.
Monitoring Period
We recommend allowing up to 14 days for the treatment to fully settle and for any remaining stragglers to perish.
During this period, continue to monitor beds, sofas and sleeping areas for signs of activity.
Our Guarantee
All treatments are covered by our guarantee period as detailed in your treatment documentation.
Should you believe activity is continuing after the monitoring period, please contact us immediately. We may request clear video evidence of live bed bugs so that we can assess the situation and arrange any necessary follow-up action.
